Morning coffee

I'm watching Jeanne feed herself with the mesh feeder (pineapple). Every once in a while she puts it down, crawls to a toy, sits back down and plays for a while. She looks around curiously and smiles at me when she notices me watching her.
She woke us this morning at 630, babbling in bed, she turned onto her belly and inched her way to Daddy and patted his back. "Da da da da da daaaaaaa" She used this for everything, I know she doesn't understand its meaning. Sometimes we sing together. She'll start with "ahhhhhaAAAhhhh". I'll copy her, then we'll match and sing together. We can do this for several minutes. It makes Daddy laugh. Monday she will be 8 months old. She is glorious to be with.

January 25th 2010

It is official. Today we are mobile! And Jeanne doesn't seem too keen on simply crawling, she is trying to pull herself up and can walk when helped!

Bakers Baking

So I've started baking.  Nothing like Eileen or Laurie, I'm starting slowly.  Bread.  Yummy, fresh from the oven, bread.  I first made 1/2 white 1/2 wheat bread, but the loaves didn't rise because I keep the house too cool.  Then I warmed the oven, and Zoom, did the bread rise.  Tonight, while Granmommy watched Jeanne I made my first 100% whole wheat bread with cranberries.  It rose well, but I think I could have given it more time to do so.  The taste is good and will make great sandwich bread.

Paul says my next feat is pies and pie crusts, but I feel daunted by that...

In other news, Jeanne is feeling better, although still has a runny nose. Even tough she was sick, she had a full week.  Within 24 hours last week, she said "Dada", "Mama", and crawled.  In only the last couple of days, if you hold her hands, she will 'walk' forward.  I doubt she'll crawl long, and will jump right towards walking in her own.

Love to all!

Day 7

Okalie Dokalie.  Thanks to a helpful tip from Uncle Lee, I was able to get some fluids into Jeanne via cup and syringe.  Well, some, and lots on her.  She is still not sleeping well, and apparently can ONLY get to sleep if being held my Mommy or Daddy.  Our arms must keep away the the evil nasal drip.

Jeanne is at least in better spirits, but still wakes several times a night hacking.  At this point her cough sounds very much like a smokers cough.  We took Jeanne back to the Doc's on Tuesday and they basically said, unless her fever spikes again (indicating a secondary infection) there's really nothing to do but wait it out.  Meanwhile, I haven't been to work all week, I'm sure my advisor is quite pleased.

Amazingly, Paul and I are not sick.  Sure we're exhausted and we feel bad for our babe, but we aren't coughing or congested.  I say amazing since Jeanne regularly tells us she doesn't feel well by turning toward our face and coughing INTO our open mouths and eyes.

Nursing strike.

Jeanne is, in many ways just like her mom.  She loves to eat.  She eats all the time, and lots.  Just like mommy.  Except when she is sick.  Jeanne normally nurses every 2-2.5 hours (24 hours a day).  Since she has been sick, she's nursed about every 3.5 4 hours and only once during the night.  She no longer has a fever, but her cough is still nasty and she is still stuffy.  I'll be calling the doc again today since I'm beginning to worry about dehydration.

Monday her attitude was a bit better, she liked playing and practicing crawling with Daddy, but flat out refused to eat for HOURS and HOURS.

So I'm up with my fiend the little black box, while Paul is rubbing Jeanne's belly in bed.  At least I can freeze some of this milk...

Icky Sicky

Jeanne has had a wet cough for two days.  Went to the Doc's today.  No wheezing, so no RSV (someone at daycare has this), and had a chest X-ray (read mini torture device meant to terrify small children and melt mommy's hearts) and this was clear, so no pneumonia.  Just a fever and a cough.  Directions:  Hugs, possibly sleeping in a chair and tylenol for the fever.

Girl on the move.

Jeanne has been actively trying to crawl now.  She HATES to be still for any length of time, and when she gets frustrated with trying to crawl, she just wants us to hold her hands so she can stand up.

She is also having fun eating.  Her favorite food, by far, is yogurt.  Now, feeding her solids, is by far my least favorite activity, but I'll deal.  Speaking of which, it's time for some dinner!

Love to you all!

The Sweetest Gift

Here are some pics of Jeanne when she first opened her gift from Auntie Eileen.

And, here she is sitting with one of her favorite second cousins!

Aren't they all stunning!  I hear they make great babysitters! Jeanne is very lucky to have such great second cousins!
This was the second week in December 2009.

Old photo update

Since I've just started this, I'll try to fill it with some relatively recent photos to catch you all up!

The red flower dress was a gift from Aunt Laurie and looked fabulous on Jeanne on Christmas.

The sweater was handknit by Auntie Eileen. It is a replica of a sweater she knit for me as a little girl. As a knitter, this is NOT a quick or easy knit! Can you get more sweet than that? Thank you Eileen!

The last photo here is us from Christmas at Eileen and James' house.

New Year's Day 2010

Granmommie took this picture on the first day of the year, and I just love it! Jeanne has been quite active this January. She is learning to crawl, just rocking back and forth a lot right now. Her favorite activity is standing, she still needs Mommy and Daddy's help though.
Just today, after her nap, I caught her trying to pull herself up in the railing of her crib, the little monster!!
